Fixing Your ADHD Problems
When I get inquiries from potential coaching clients, they mention typical ADHD struggles. They want to be able to focus better, be more productive, be more organized, etc. Is there anything wrong with these goals? No, but why stop there? I often find myself wishing my potential clients would come in with grander goals.
It’s easy to say, “I want my boat to stop sinking,” and then follow up with plugging the holes with temporary fixes. Why not patch up the holes with new materials that will be permanent and will give the boat a shiny new look? Why not upgrade the boat?
What I am getting at here is those of us with ADHD can get so focused on just fixing problems that we lose sight of the fact that we were meant for more than just survival. We were meant to thrive. That is what I invite you, dear reader, to do. I invite you to look beyond your current reality and dream of a life where you are joyful, fulfilled, and constantly growing.
Problem Solving Is Not Growing
When you are focused on the problems of the day, you are in survival mode. Merely putting out fires will not help you reach the life you deserve. You are on defense, and you can only move forward when you are on the attack. So, I invite you to choose growth, not problem solving. To go back to the boat metaphor, a small boat gets tossed around by waves; whereas, a bigger boat can easily handle bigger waves.
Real Growth
So, what does a bigger boat look like? What is real growth? A simple way of describing it is to say that growth is about who you are and not what you are doing. Growth involves something interior, not fixating on fixing exterior problems. Very often, it is not about the clutter in one’s house. It’s about the clutter in one’s perception of who one is. I invite you today to look inside, discover who you are being, and discover if that is who you want to be. My guess is you want to be someone more than who you are being in this moment. If you have read this far into this blog post, something has resonated with you.
Now What?
If you have decided to grow interiorly, what do you do next? It is time to become the person you were created to be. That takes self-exploration and a willingness to do new things. Once you have determined who you want to become, do what must be done to become that person. Confused? That is okay. You do not have to do it alone. You can have a team helping you grow. One powerful way to grow is to hire a coach. A coach asks insightful question, designed to get you to think deeply and open up about what is going on in your life and whether it is serving you or getting in your way. In short, a coach empowers you to become the person you were created to be. Sound like something you want? Sign up for a Free Reset Session to learn more. If you have any questions, I can answer them.
