The ADHD brain craves excitement. This can lead to overworking the brain for no reason. We ADHDers complicate things just to make things interesting for our brain. However, this is sometimes counter-productive.

It is not necessary to do extraordinary things to get extraordinary results.
— Warren Buffett

Overcomplicating Things

Sometimes, this ADHD need to stimulate the brain can cause us to overcomplicate the task at hand. Finding different ways of doing something is necessary for the ADHD brain because the ADHD brain is wired differently. However, that different strategy does not have to be overly complicated. Keeping things simple is often the best strategy. You might make things harder than they need to be if you try to make it complicated. A true “hack” makes things easier, not harder.

Time-Saving, Not Time-Sucking

Your ADHD “hacks” should save you time, not increase the time it takes you to do things. Yes, you might take longer than the average person to complete something, but it should not be unnecessarily long. The goal is efficiency, not lengthy and over-complicated. The simple way will save you time because it is less complicated. It will not take you as long to do it.

The Simple Way Is the Best Way

Overcomplicating things will only overwhelm you, and overwhelm is a huge problem with ADHD. Overwhelm shuts us down. The more complicated a task is, the more likely it will be to overwhelm you and shut you down. If you want to avoid overwhelm find the simplest way of doing it that works for your brain.
