Unlocking the Strengths of ADHD: 3 Areas Where ADHD Individuals Excel
There are many areas where those with ADHD struggle, and that is often where society places its focus. However, those of us with ADHD can do amazing things. We are talented and skilled in a wide variety of areas. Success is not limited to one area for us. There are three broad areas where we can succeed.
Areas of High Interest
When we have the stimulation of an area that appeals to us, focus is not an issue. We excel in these areas of high interest. So, if you think we cannot focus, guess again. A lot of us with ADHD like video games because of the near instant feedback we get. However, a lecture in a classroom dedicated to a subject we have no interest in is a more challenging situation. We need something interesting or something presented to us in a new or novel way.
The New or Novel
The ADHD brain is attracted to the new or the novel. When in a new situation, the ADHD brain can focus. It is exciting and not the same boring stuff as always. In these situations, you may notice us doing amazing at focusing and learning as long as the new situation is stimulating.
Crisis Mode
One area that is of high stimulation is a crisis situation. When in crisis mode, we can be on top of our game. Those of us with ADHD can be counted on when it is time to act in an intense situation. However, the flip side of this is sometimes we procrastinate until we are in crisis mode. That is not healthy. But, the ability to act and be counted on in a crisis situation is a strength in certain situations not the result of procrastination. In short, if you are looking for a good first responder or someone to get you out of an unexpected jam, consider enlisting a person with ADHD.
