The Burger King Principle
Managing your ADHD is kind of like fulfilling an order at a Burger King. The slogan for Burger King used to be “Have it your way.” I maintain this is a principle that ADHDers ought to adapt. You see, you have to manage your ADHD your way.
We Are All Unique
ADHD affects everyone differently. The presentation of ADHD in me is going to look different than its presentation in you. So, what this means is I will have to do things differently than you do and you will have to do things differently than I do.
Your Way
So, this begs the question, “What is your way?” How do you figure out how best you operate? I maintain that the best way to figure it out is experimentation. Try something different. When I say “Try something different,” I mean try something in a really unique way. Think outside the box. If the secret to working in a way that is conducive to the way you naturally operate was readily apparent, you would be doing it already.
Another thing to consider when you are wondering what is “your way” is past success. When have you done really well? How were you able to succeed in those circumstances? Burried within those memories are golden nuggets that reveal your inner strengths.
Build on Strengths
When you find the way you best operate and your strengths, build upon those. A strength is only a strength if you use it. So, get out there and build up your strengths. Flex your muscles and get stuff done.
Not sure where to start with all of this? A coach is a great way to uncover your strengths and the ways you best operate.
