Explore Reset ADHD Books

If you are following my YouTube channel, you know that I am currently writing a book. This project is unique because, in writing my previous books, I had the opportunity to write in a different way that I am writing now. My early books were written by giving myself a word count for each day and writing until I hit my daily word count. My latest books (The Reset ADHD Trilogy of Books) were written using my blog posts. This time, I am trying to write a book while running a business. So, how do I go about this? Read on to find out.

Accountability

This is a solo project, so no one is expecting me to finish it. I have no one breathing down my neck waiting for a draft. Instead, I have to provide my own accountability. That is not easy. I can be full of crap at times. However, I stumbled upon the idea of filming a vlog series about my writing process. I hop on camera and talk for a few minutes about my progress and how I am getting work done on the project. The crazy thing is people are actually watching it. I have not gone viral, but people are legitimately watching and following along. This makes me want to keep going. I know my viewers will be disappointed if I do not update them on my progress.

Fans

I have a mentor coach with whom I have discussed this project, and I am in a writers group who keeps checking in with me on my progress. This is fantastic. Both my coach and my group are rooting me on and want me to succeed. I have a cheering section. I also include my vlog viewers in my cheering section.

Blocking Off Writing Time

The only way I have gotten any progress done on this project is by setting aside time for it. If I have not blocked off time and promised myself to write during that time, I would not be writing. Having dedicated writing time is getting me started on and committed to the writing process.

Reconnecting with the Subject Matter

Writing this book has been interesting because it is non-fiction. I have to remember what has happened and how I felt about it. It is allowing me to reconnect with memories and feelings. When I need inspiration for what to write, I find ways of looking back in my memory by looking at pictures or reminding myself what others told me about the subject matter. It has been both fun and challenging to remember.

Persevering

Look, I do not want to write every time I go to my computer to write, but I know I want to complete this project. So, I write. I write even when I do not feel like it. I persevere. I know this story is important to tell and that I am the only one who can tell it. So, I push on and keep going. Yes, some days it is hard to get words down, but I keep going. It has been tempting to give up, but because of all the stuff I mentioned above, I am finding the perseverance to keep going.
