How to Stay Grateful the Whole Year Long
This week the United States celebrates Thanksgiving, a time to come together with family and friends to remember all for which we are grateful. This takes the form of a giant meal. So, are we really grateful, or do we just enjoy turkey? I am not here to pass judgment on anyone’s Thanksgiving plans, but I do want to say a word on the subject of gratitude. I promise to not be cheesy.
Gratitude is important. Remembering all of the good things in life helps us stay positive. Many of us with ADHD struggle with staying positive. I want to throw out a challenge to you all: Stay grateful the whole year. How is this accomplished? Read on to find out!
Establish a Gratitude Practice
This can be whatever you want it to be. It does not have to be the dreaded gratitude list (but it can be if that works for you). The idea behind a gratitude practice is simply setting time aside to think about what is going well in your life and be grateful for those things. It can be easy to forget about the good things in life, especially when you have ADHD. So, starting today, take the time to remember all the good that is in your life. If you can’t think of anything, keep trying. The great things are out there. Trust me.
Have a System to Remind You to Be Grateful
A gratitude practice is useless if you don’t actually do it. It can be hard to remember to be grateful when you have ADHD. Memory is one of our challenges. So, set up a system to help you be grateful. Is it a picture hanging by your bed that reminds you to be grateful? Or is it a notification on your phone? What is going to work for you?
Before I Go…
I want to say thank you to everyone who reads these posts I make. For you, dear reader, I am eternally grateful.
