Growing up, I always felt different, and I could never put my finger on why. It was not until I was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 20 that I began to understand why I was the way I was. This realization has explained why I always felt different.

Are You Different?

Neurologically speaking, your ADHD brain is wired differently than a typicla brain. So, in terms of neurology, if you have ADHD, you are different. However, I do not believe that is a bad thing.

Being Weird Is to Be Celebrated!

What makes you different or weird, that’s your strength.
— Meryl Streep

I mentioned at the start of this blog post how I always felt different growing up. Now, that I know why. I can celebrate being weird. I like it. Life is more interesting when you are weird.

One time, I was a groomsman in a wedding and was given a pair of gray, yellow, and white argyle socks to wear. I loved those socks! I have worn them so much since that I wore them out. I had to throw them away because I got a hole in them. More recently, I was a groomsman in a wedding and was given a pair of plain navy socks to wear. I have not worn those socks since. They are boring. I like fun, unique socks. The socks I am wearing as I write this are polka dot socks. I love them. The best socks are the weird socks.

I rant about socks today to drive home the point that weirdness is okay. In fact, it is more than okay; it is wonderful. Life would be so boring if I was “normal.” I celebrate being weird.

So, does your ADHD make you weird? Yes, and hooray for that! Embrace being weird.
