How to Level Up Your ADHD Management

When it comes to managing your ADHD, there is surviving, and then there is thriving. Many with ADHD merely survive. What I hope for in my clients and my readers is that they thrive in life. To thrive as an ADHDer means to level up and reach a whole new height of living.

What Does It Mean to Survive?

Before we get into thriving, we must first discuss what it means to merely survive. To survive means to just barely get by. It is meeting the bare minimum. If you are surviving, you are stuck at a level of competency that is satisfactory. There is nothing wrong, per se, with surviving, but it is not fun and exciting. It is just okay.

What Does It Mean to Thrive?

While surviving is okay, thriving is amazing. If you are thriving, your life is incredible. To thrive is to enjoy life and all it has to offer. It is living up to and exceeding expectations. Instead of reaching the minimum threshold, you are flying above what is expected of you.

How to Level up and Thrive

Now that I have sold you on thriving, I am sure you are wondering how to level up and thrive. The first step is to do what you have already done if you have read this far. You must decide that you want more. Wanting more out of life might seem selfish, but it is not. We are not meant to just merely eke out a life; we are meant to go beyond. We are called to a life of greatness. Now, greatness does not mean a life without struggle. We cannot achieve greatness without struggle. The second step in thriving is facing your struggles head-on. Do not run away from the struggle; lean into it. The third step is to overcome your challenges. The good news here is you do not have to do it alone. You can get team members to help you. Your team could consist of family members, friends, a coach, a therapist, or anyone who is willing to be there for you and help you grow. The fourth step is to look around at your life, appreciate what you have, and keep dreaming of more. In short, to thrive, you must always be thinking, “What’s next?” This does not mean being ungrateful for what you have and what you have achieved; it simply means always looking to improve yourself and the world around you. We will not achieve perfection in this life, so there is always somewhere to grow.

Does this sound overwhelming? It does not have to be overwhelming. Take things one tiny step at a time, and appreciate the growth you have already achieved. As I have written before, when climbing a mountain, you sometimes have to look up and see how far you have to go. Other times, you need to look down and see how far you have come.
