5 Quick ADHD Tips
Who has time for lengthy blog posts? Not me! Here are some quick tips for ADHD.
1.) To Remember Whether or Not You’ve Taken Your Medication…
Sometimes, we can forget whether or not we have taken our medication. I have found a way around this. Before I go to bed, I flip my pill bottles upside down. When I take my medication in the morning, I flip the bottle right side up. That way, I know whether or not I have taken my medication simply by looking at the bottle's position.
2.) To Deepen Your Understanding of ADHD…
One way to help you learn and make sense of your own ADHD is to teach others about ADHD. They say that one of the best ways to learn something is to teach it. By finding the right words to explain it to others, you can come to a greater understanding of ADHD.
3.) To Improve the Efficacy of Your Medicine…
Your medication works better when you have had enough sleep. Sleep deprivation will only make your ADHD symptoms worse, and sleep deprivation gives neurotypicals the symptoms of ADHD. If you want to know how to improve your sleep, I have written a lot on this topic.
4.) To Access Your Prefrontal Cortex…
The prefrontal cortex is the part of the brain most associated with executive functions, those cognitive processes that help us get organized and get stuff done. A simple way to get that part of the brain going is to take a deep breath (or several). This will increase oxygen to this essential part of the brain.
5.) To Remember Things…
Those of us with ADHD have limited working memory. If there is something important you need to remember, write it down. Externalize that idea. By getting it out of your head, you lower the risk of it getting lost in your brain.
