How to Stop Overthinking
Chances are, if you have ADHD, you know a thing or two about overthinking. When you overthink, you think about something so much and ruminate over the potential outcomes of whatever the subject is. It is paralyzing and can disrupt your life. So, what can you do to combat this tendency? Here are some tips:
Exercise
Get outside and move around. This helps focus the brain and allows you to process more clearly. It does not have to be an intense cardio workout. Simply walking will do.
Take Some Deep Breaths
Your mind is racing right now. One way to fight this is to take several deep breaths and relax. By slowing down, you are opening the door to a calmer mind.
Externalize It
Talk it out with someone, or write in a journal about it. Getting these thoughts outside of your head will help. When they stay inside your head they swirl around and wreak havoc on your brain.
Take an Action
Do something related to your internal debate. It doesn’t matter what the action is. As long as you are acting and getting out of your head, you will be defeating the cycle of overthinking.
