Overcoming Self-Doubt
One thing that commonly plagues ADHDers is self-doubt. It is a nasty mindset that prevents you from taking action on the things that are most important to you. However, it can be overcome. You do not have to be trapped by self-doubt. There are things you can do to overcome self-doubt.
Remind Yourself of Past Success
One of the things I often ask my clients to do is list their wins. This creates a winning mindset. Instead of focusing on all of the times they did not succeed, their mindset switches to focusing on their wins, those things that went well. You can do this as you move forward in time, but one of the most powerful ways to list your wins is to go back in time and remember all of the times you did well in the past. This will give you confidence moving forward.
Doubt Your Doubts
Show your doubts who’s boss. Doubt your doubts. A thought is just a thought. It is not necessarily true. If you can doubt the phrase “I can,” then it is possible to doubt the phrase “I can’t.”
Find a Champion
In this case, a champion is defined as someone who believes in you. Finding someone who believes in you is a powerful way to overcome self-doubt. Their belief in your abilities provides a contrary voice to the ones inside your head that tell you you cannot do it.
Stop Thinking; Start Doing
One of the most powerful things you can do to overcome self-doubt is to get out of your head. Overthinking only paralyzes you. Do whatever it takes to stop thinking and start doing. This might mean talking it out with someone you trust (like a coach) to help inspire you into action.
