When to Make a Change in Your Life

Perhaps, you have noticed something needs to change in your life. Maybe you need to exercise more or eat healthier. Whatever the change is you might be wondering when is the appropriate time to start. Well, I have a few thoughts on that.

Do It Now

…Now, now, now! And you grousle and heckle and dodge about like pettifogging Tammany Hall hucksters! See what is before you! See the here and now! That’s the hardest thing, the only thing that accounts!…
— Lincoln (the 2012 movie)

Yup, there is no time like the present. Get it done now. The best time is right when you are thinking about the need for change. You might not think of it later, so act now. Do the thing!

Furthermore, the more you persist in unhealthy habits, the more ingrained they will become. The sooner you start addressing the issue, the easier it will be to break the bad habit.

There Will Always Be an Excuse

But what about this, that, or the other thing? The truth is there will always be a reason why you cannot start now. Eventually, you have to overcome the excuses. To be honest, what is really holding you back is not the excuses. You have to decide what is more important—making the change or making excuses.

When Does Tomorrow Get Here?

A question I like to ask my clients is: When does tomorrow get here? It is a trick question. Tomorrow never arrives. No matter what time it is, no matter how long you wait, it will always be now. It will always be today. All we have is today. If you know there is a change that needs to be made, make the change today. Hit the reset button today.
