Creating the Life You Want
You have freedom. You have the freedom to live the life you want to live. It is up to you to decide how you live your life, but it will not be easy. The world is not wired for ADHD brains. You have to work for your right to have the life that will support you. It is up to you to achieve your ideal life. Here are some tips for living and creating the life you desire.
Who Are You?
First, learn about yourself. Become fascinated by who you are. We all have innate qualities. No one hands you a menu with different parts of personality you can choose. You have to discover who you are for yourself. Knowing yourself will help you take control of your life. Once you know where you are, you can plot out where you want to go.
Design Your Life
It is easy to say, “Know yourself,” but it is tricky to take what you have learned about yourself and make life bend to what you want. However, you can make progress toward your ideal life. Nothing happens overnight, but small changes can create a life that supports your natural way of being and operating in the world. I encourage you to think about who you are and what will help you live authentically.
Set Boundaries
Once you have decided what you need in life and what will support you, setting some boundaries is going to be crucial. If you know you cannot do X, do not let anyone coerce you into doing X. Moreover, you might have to explain to others why you will no longer accept certain behaviors from them. Setting boundaries can be hard, but they are necessary.
Caveats
You have freedom, yes, but you cannot do whatever you want. It is not a matter of doing whatever would make you feel good in the moment. Yeah, there are certain politicians that create feelings of “I want to punch them,” but freedom does not mean punching that person. You do not have the right to do wrong. As Saint John Paul II said, “Freedom consists not in doing what we like, but in having the right to do what we ought.” So, I encourage you to find what will create the greatest amount of good in your life and to do that.
Lastly, life is imperfect, so embrace that. If your ideal life is sleeping in until noon, you might not be able to find a career that supports that. However, you can find a career where start times are flexible.
