Embrace the Weird!
One of the things that irks me is the negative connotation the word “weird” has. Weird is not bad. Weird is good, and it is especially good for those of us with ADHD.
Matching Your Brain Wiring
If you have ADHD, your brain is wired differently. That is not a bad thing. However, if you do not embrace that difference in wiring, you can run into problems. Life is just easier when you do things differently because your brain is different. This means you work with your brain, not against it. Working with your brain will help you be more efficient and accomplish more. In short, if you want to be more productive, be weird.
Memory Aid
Do you have trouble remembering things? Try being weird. When you do things weirdly, you remember more because it stands out more in your brain. If you constantly find yourself forgetting whether or not you have done something, try doing something weird right after you do the thing. Making a weird noise will do the job, or you could narrate what you are doing in a silly voice.
Weird Is More Fun
Doing things in an odd manner is more fun than just doing them the way everyone else does. I have previously written about the importance of having fun. The fun aspect makes life more interesting. Life is just better when you are having fun.
How Can You Get Weird?
What can you do to get weird? Take some time to brainstorm odd ways of doing tasks you routinely have trouble getting started on. By contemplating being weird, you will make the mundane tasks you have to do more exciting. If they are exciting, they are more likely to get done.
