Let’s talk about strengths, dear reader. Let’s talk about you and me. Let’s talk about all the good things that come from using our strengths and the bad things that come from not using our strengths.

The Bad Stuff

Let’s start with the bad stuff. Why? I want to look at what happens when we don’t use our strengths to show how that is not to be desired.

We Don’t Get Stuff Done

When we trying using our weaknesses to get stuff done, stuff does not get done. Well, okay maybe a few things will get done, but not as much as one would like.

The Little We Do Get Done Will Not Be Done Well

Coming from a place of weakness will not set us up to be successful. We will be mediocre at best and downright awful at worst.

We Won’t Feel Good about Our Work

Taking pride in our work is essential. It gives us something for which to strive. It helps us feel happier. Meaningful work helps our happiness. Not feeling pride in your work will leave you feeling yucky.

The Good Stuff

Now, let’s look at the good stuff. Spoiler alert: It is the opposite of what we discussed above.

We Get Stuff Done

When we use our strengths, we get more done in a shorter amount of time. Our productivity increases.

We Will Do Good Work

When we are using our natural talents, we are more likely to do well. The quality of our work increases. We will excel at our work, and others will notice. This feels good

We Take Pride in Our Work

Instead of the drudgery of doing mediocre work, we feel pride about the good work we’ve done when we use our strengths. A job well done is something of which to be proud. That pride increases our happiness. Doing things using your strengths makes you a happier, more positive person.
