What Is Reset ADHD up To?
If you have been following this blog or Reset ADHD for a while, you may have an idea of what Reset ADHD is. Your idea of what Reset ADHD does may be right. It might be wrong. It might just be incomplete. 2023 is already and will continue to be an exciting time for Reset ADHD. A lot is happening, and it can be hard to keep track of everything. I have designed this post to be just a brief explanation of what Reset ADHD is up to.
ADHD Lessons Learned from Improv
On March 23, 2023, Reset ADHD hosted a webinar on ADHD and improv. At the end of the webinar, it was announced that Reset ADHD would be hosting virtual improv “playdates.” If this sounds intriguing to you, sign up. If you are wondering why I am pushing ADHD and improv so hard, read on, for in this blog post I will be discussing what can be learned from improv.
Why Daylight Saving Time Is TERRIBLE for Those with ADHD
On March 12, the United States once again sprang forward into what is known as “Daylight Saving Time.” This is bad news. Daylight Saving Time (DST) is bad for everyone’s health, but it is especially bad for those with ADHD. In this blog post, I will explain why and what we can do to fight back against this foolish practice.
Work Hard/Play Hard
When I was in college, I had to interview three entrepreneurs for one of my classes. One of the entrepreneurs I chose to interview was my grandfather. During the course of the interview, he gave me a piece of advice that I’ll never forget. He said, “No matter where you want to go in life, work hard to get there, but also, take the time to play hard along the way.” He went on to tell me that he feels he did not take the time to play enough early in his career and that he was trying to make up for that a bit in his later years.
ADHD Management Needs to Be More Fun
When we think about dealing with our ADHD, we use words like “control” and “manage.” What I would like to propose is that we change the way we talk about ADHD management. What if we started using words like “play” or “harness?” How would that change the way we think about ADHD? I maintain that this is a better way of approaching things. Now, I am not proposing to make ADHD a superpower. I am not one of those people; I see the dangers of ADHD. In fact, I have called ADHD the “ignored public health crisis.” However, I think the answer to this public health crisis is play and fun.
Fixing Your ADHD Problems
When I get inquiries from potential coaching clients, they mention typical ADHD struggles. They want to be able to focus better, be more productive, be more organized, etc. Is there anything wrong with these goals? No, but why stop there? I often find myself wishing my potential clients would come in with grander goals.
It’s easy to say, “I want my boat to stop sinking,” and then follow up with plugging the holes with temporary fixes. Why not patch up the holes with new materials that will be permanent and will give the boat a shiny new look? Why not upgrade the boat?
Productivity When There's a Lot on Your Plate
I have big plans for 2023. Reset ADHD will be moving forward with several projects in the months to come. It is an exciting time for me, but it is also kind of difficult. With so many projects to balance, it can be hard to plan my time and stay moving forward on all of my goals. If you are like me, you have a lot of things you would like to do but are unsure of how it will all get done. I thought I would share what I am doing to stay productive during this busy time in the hopes it will help you to stay productive.
Surviving the Adderall (and other ADHD Meds) Shortage
By now, you’ve probably heard about the Adderall shortage. It has been dragging on for months and shows no sign of ending anytime soon. Word on the street is that other ADHD medications are beginning to see shortages as well. This is bad news for those of us who take our medication daily to combat the effects of ADHD. Many are finding it hard to find their medication which raises the question: What is an ADHDer to do? Here are some ideas.
How to Be the Hero of Your Own Story
In last week’s blog post, I made reference to the 2016 graphic novel Dark Night: A True Batman Story, written by Paul Dini. I mentioned a quote at the end of the graphic novel that encourages us “to be the hero of our own stories.” Saying that is all fine and dandy, but how to we actually do that? Well, I have a few tips.
Am I Overwhelmed?
The other day, I told my coach that I was overwhelmed with all the things I wanted to do. He got curious about what I was feeling and started exploring. Through his questions and observations, I came to realize I was not overwhelmed. I was just looking at things incorrectly. I needed to reframe how I was looking at all of the projects I have on my plate right now.
ADHD and OCD
As mentioned on this blog before, ADHD often comes with “tagalongs.” One possibility for a co-morbid condition is Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). According to an article written by Amitai Abramovitch, Ph.D. and Andrew Mittelman on the International OCD Foundation website, “over 35 studies have reported that an average of 21% of children and 8.5% of adults with OCD actually have ADHD as well.”
Introducing: The Reset ADHD Trilogy of Books
2023 will see three books released by Reset ADHD. I am excited about this project, and I hope you will consider reading these books. In this blog post, I would just like to give you an overview of what each of the books covers. If this inspires you in any way, I hope you will share this news with someone you care about who is affected by ADHD.
The Secret to Balancing Life
There are many aspects to life – play, work, self-care, etc. We need a balance of all to live a healthy life. It can be hard to balance everything, especially when one has ADHD. The hyperfocus caused by ADHD can cause one to be so preoccupied with one task that nothing else gets done. It can also cause one to forget about taking care of oneself. And, there are many other aspects of ADHD that are troublesome when it comes to balance. I am not here to list every possible way ADHD could get in the way of living a balanced life. I am here to give you one tiny little secret that will help you live a more balanced life.
Why I Became an ADHD Coach
Last week, I wrote about what makes Reset ADHD unique. In that blog post, I said I would probably write a follow up about what else makes my coaching practice unique. While thinking about how to follow up with that, I wondered if I ever told the story of why I decided to become an ADHD coach. I thought I had, but as it turns out, I have not written that story down. What I thought was the story of why I became a coach was, in fact, a letter to myself about why I am a coach, in case I ever doubt myself and my chosen career. If you want to read more about my why for being a coach, give it a read. However, if you are simply interested in a story version of why I am a coach, this is the blog post for you!
What Makes Reset ADHD Unique?
What is Reset ADHD? Reset ADHD is owned and operated by Alex R. Hey, PCAC (AKA me). It is first and foremost an ADHD coaching practice. I do write blogs, but my main focus is coaching. In this blog post I hope to describe what makes coaching with Reset ADHD unique.
Are you looking for an ADHD coach? Are you worried that all coaches are the same? I assure you we are not. We are all unique. Some coaches make you check in with them every day; I do not. Some will talk a lot; others (myself included) will hold plenty of space for you to think, process, and speak.
How I Write Books with ADHD
I have written several books despite having ADHD. It is definitely possible to do so, and I hope any budding writers out there believe in themselves enough to do so as well. What I would like to share in this blog post is just a few things I do to help me write books.
Whom Do I Enjoy Coaching?
I have been thinking a lot about my ideal client lately. Put another way, I have been asking myself, “Whom do I enjoy coaching?” It is not an easy question, but it is one that business gurus say I need to know. That is one end of the spectrum. My belief, in my time as a business owner/ADHD coach, has been that I do not need to define my ideal client. That is the other end of the spectrum. These two ends of the spectrum are all I have been exploring in my time in business. I do not like the idea of turning away potential clients, so I clung to the idea that defining my ideal client is unnecessary. This is black and white thinking. One end of the spectrum is black, and the other end is white.
10 Things I Learned at the 2022 International Conference on ADHD
November 17–19, I attended the 2022 International Conference on ADHD. It was three days of presentations, networking, and spending time with great people. I enjoyed myself, but I also learned a lot. I would like to share with you 10 things I learned while at the conference.
7 Things That Help Me as an Entrepreneur with ADHD
ADHD is a weird condition. Some people with ADHD need the structure of having a boss, and others need the freedom to be an entrepreneur. I cannot tell you what the best work environment is for you, but I can tell you that I have found what works for me as an entrepreneur with ADHD. If you own your own business or desire to start your own business, read on for some ideas that might help you. (REMINDER: What works for me may not work for you; you need to find what works with your brain.)
How to Stay on Top of Email
Technology is great, but it can also be overwhelming. Emails fly into your inbox at an incredible rate and can get out of control if you are not on top of things. Many ADHDers struggle with their email. It is normal, but it is a problem. So, what can be done? I have four ideas to share with you today.
